Adi Granth
(panjabi: "El primer libro o también "El libro del Señor).

Sagrada escritura del sijismo. Compuesto por cerca de 6.000 himnos de gurúes (ver gurú) sijs y santos islámicos e hindúes, es el objeto principal de culto en todas las gurdwaras (templos sijs). El rito de abrir y cerrar el Adi Granth se efectúa cada día, aunque se lee de modo continuo en ocasiones especiales. Fue compilado inicialmente en 1604 por el Gurú sij, Arjan; incluye sus propios himnos, los de sus predecesores, además de cánticos de devoción de hombres santos. En 1704, el último gurú, Gobind Singh, le agregó más himnos y decretó que luego de su muerte el Adi Granth reemplazaría al gurú. Escrito principalmente en lengua punjabi e hindi, contiene el Mula Mantra (oración fundamental o mantra maestro), el Japji (la más importante escritura redactada por el Gurú Nanak) y los himnos dispuestos conforme a las ragas en que se debe de cantar.
